1.What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser to remember information between page loads and visits. Related technologies — localStorage, sessionStorage — serve similar purposes but live entirely in your browser and are not transmitted with every request. This policy covers all of them, together called "cookies" for readability.
2.Who Sets Them Here
Cookies on this website are set by Duurzameregionaleontwikkeling Inc. (first-party) and, in one narrow case described in Section 9, by the OpenStreetMap Foundation when you load the map on our contact page. No other third party sets cookies through Aurora Play Lounge.
3.Our Guiding Principle
A free social casino has no advertising partners to feed, so our rule is simple: if a cookie doesn't directly help you play, sign in or read the site in your language, we don't set it. The complete inventory below fits in one short table — and we intend to keep it that way.
4.Strictly Necessary Cookies
These make the website function and cannot be switched off without breaking core features:
- apl_session — keeps you signed in while you move between pages.
- apl_lang — remembers whether you chose English or French.
- apl_consent — records your cookie choices so we don't ask repeatedly.
5.Functional Storage
These improve the experience but the site survives without them:
- apl_coins (localStorage) — your fictional Aurora Coins balance for in-browser play.
- apl_user (localStorage) — your saved display name and sign-in details for the demo account features.
- apl_prefs (localStorage) — interface preferences such as reduced animations.
6.Performance and Analytics
We measure page performance using aggregate, privacy-respecting server-side metrics (response times, error rates). We currently run no client-side analytics cookies. If that ever changes, this policy and the consent banner will be updated before anything is set.
7.What We Do NOT Use
- No advertising or retargeting cookies (Google Ads, Meta Pixel, etc.).
- No cross-site tracking or fingerprinting techniques.
- No data-broker or audience-matching tags.
- No session-replay recorders capturing your keystrokes or mouse movements.
- No social-media share buttons that phone home on page load.

9.Third-Party Embeds
The map on our contact page is an embedded frame served by openstreetmap.org. Loading it sends your IP address and standard request headers to the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which may set its own functional cookies under its privacy policy. The map loads lazily — it only initialises when the contact page is opened — and no other page contacts any third-party embed.
10.Local Storage vs Cookies
Most of our "remembering" happens in localStorage rather than cookies. The practical difference matters for privacy: localStorage never leaves your device, is not attached to network requests, and is invisible to any server — including ours. Your fictional coin balance, for example, is yours alone; we couldn't read it from our side if we wanted to.
11.How to Control Cookies
Every modern browser lets you view, delete and block cookies and site data: look for "Cookies and site data" in Chrome and Edge settings, "Privacy & Security" in Firefox, or "Privacy" in Safari preferences. You can clear storage for this site alone without affecting others. Mobile browsers offer equivalent controls in their settings menus.
12.Consequences of Blocking
Blocking strictly necessary cookies means you cannot stay signed in and your language choice resets each visit. Clearing localStorage resets your fictional coin balance to the starting 1,000 — annoying but harmless, since the coins have no value. Nothing about blocking cookies affects our willingness to serve you; the free site keeps working in a stateless way.
13.Consent and Withdrawal
Strictly necessary cookies are set on the legal basis of legitimate interest, as the site cannot function without them. Functional storage is set when you first interact with the relevant feature (for example, opening a game sets apl_coins). You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing site data in your browser; the platform will simply ask again the next time the feature is used.
14.Changes to This Policy
If we add, remove or change cookies, this page and its inventory table are updated first, with the date at the top revised. A new cookie category — for example, any future analytics — would also trigger a fresh consent prompt before activation. We do not change cookie behaviour silently.
